Kan alleen Bianca Castafiore een glas kapot zingen? Welk misverstand leidde tot de uitvinding van de telescoop? Hoe klinkt vragend glas en waarom is de mimespeler veroordeeld tot een glazen gevangenis?

The Glass Delusion is een langlopend onderzoek van Barbara Visser en Bart Haensel dat getoond wordt op de tweede verdieping van DordtYart. Het is een werkplaats voor het schrijven van een scenario over de betekenis van glas waarin verschillende elementen te zien zijn waarmee zij hun onderzoek mogelijk maken: een wand waarop inhoudelijke dwarsverbanden in de komende maanden verder worden uitgewerkt, een 1:10 maquette voor ruimtelijke experimenten met glas en projectie, ruw filmmateriaal waarin een glazen oog wordt vervaardigd en een geluidstrack in de vorm van een radioprogramma waarin de makers hun onderzoek toelichten. 
Je bent uitgenodigd voor een bezoek aan deze wunderkammer op zondag 21 juli, waar ze delen uit het onderzoek bekijken, beluisteren en verbeelden. Een middag over glaswaan, geheime kennis, fabels en feiten uit de populaire cultuur, én een goed moment om het glas te heffen op kunst en wetenschap.

De kunstenaarsmaterialen van de afgelopen acht jaar DordtYart hebben zich opgestapeld en verzameld in en rondom de hal. Het gaat om metalen platen, piepschuim blokken, touw maar ook om planten, meubelen, een boot, handdoeken en bekers, spullen die nodig waren om de Biesboschhal tot een centrum voor hedendaagse kunst te maken. Toen wij Sachi vroegen een finale performance te maken, viel haar oog direct op deze materialen. Met knalgele stickers in haar hand is ze met medewerkers van de hal gaan rondlopen en heeft de materialen verzameld, gerangschikt, tentoongesteld in de hal. Alle spullen zijn te vinden in haar catalogus en worden verkocht tijdens een speciale veiling in het finissageweekend (27 en 28 juli). Hiermee hopen we dat spullen een nieuwe bestemming krijgen. 

Wij nodigen u graag uit voor deze veiling. Een veilingmeester, assistenten, Sachi en het decor van DordtYart zorgen samen voor deze afsluitende performance in de hal. Alle spullen uit de catalogus van Sachi komen voorbij en gaan met degene mee die de spullen het hardst nodig heeft. ‘It’s not about the money, it’s the psychological part that interests me. It’s going to be another way of judging.’ Het geld dat opgehaald wordt tijdens de veiling gaat naar de toekomst van DordtYart: naar het nieuwe plan.

The Glass Delusion is a long-term research by Barbara Visser and Bart Haensel, which is alternately shared with public in audio, video, installation and live: ‘You are invited to visit our wunderkammer, where we view, listen to and depict parts of the study. An afternoon about glass delusion, secret knowledge, fables and facts from popular culture, and a good time to raise a glass to art and science.'

‘There are millions of possible materials around us to make an artwork. There are more than millions of ways to treat materials by artist’s hands. Artist chooses materials and progresses them to form in their ways. Or materials choose artist to form it into artwork.’

The artist materials from the past eight years DordtYart have accumulated and collected in and around the hall. Metal plates, polystyrene blocks, rope, but also plants, furniture, a boat, towels and cups; things that were needed to make the Biesboschhal a center for contemporary art. When we asked Sachi to make a final performance, she immediately noticed these materials. With bright yellow stickers she walked around the hall with employees. She collected the materials, arranged them, and exhibited them in the hall. This gives the materials a whole new kind of value. In addition to the items here, she has also made a catalog in which all items can be found. The materials are sold during a special auction during the finissage weekend (27 & 28 juli). This gives the materials hopefully a new destination.

We would like to invite you to this auction. An auctioneer, assistants, Sachi and the decor of DordtYart together make this final performance in the hall. All items from Sachi's catalog pass by and go with those who need it the most. 'It's not about the money, it's the psychological part that interests me. It's going to be another way of judging.'

The money that is collected during the auction goes to the future of DordtYart: to the new plan.
