DordtYart 2019: Verschijnen / Verdwijnen

Toen DordtYart in 2010 in ons leven verscheen, bleek het direct een plek waar gecreëerd moest worden. Een prachtige locatie met veel licht, ruimte, mogelijkheden en een voelbare sfeer die vraagt om in gewerkt te worden. Inmiddels hebben meer dan 90 kunstenaars korte en lange werkperiodes gehad in de hal waarbij het verschijnen van nieuw werk en experiment prachtig was om mee te maken, zowel voor de bezoekers als voor de kunstenaars en voor ons.

We gaan het laatste jaar in als DordtYart in de oude machinefabriek in Dordrecht, 2019. Al vanaf het begin wisten wij als organisatie dat het tijdelijk zou zijn. Dit zorgt ook voor kracht: we hebben straks in 8 jaar tijd ongelooflijk veel moois kunnen laten gebeuren. Tijd voor iets nieuws.

Dat DordtYart een plek is die heeft doen verschijnen en na de zomer zal verdwijnen is voor ons een mooi en passend thema, waar nog allerlei andere gedachtes bij opspelen. Het verschijnen van werken en experimenten in de hal, het gebied om DordtYart heen dat enorm aan het ontwikkelen is, de ingeperkte tijd van dit project, de hal die haar vergankelijkheid toont na al die jaren, de veranderende seizoenen die soms letterlijk de hal binnendringen, de levendige landtong vol bomen, planten en beesten..

Bever in residence

DordtYart in de winter betekent geen activiteiten in de hal en toch zagen we buiten bij de haven een omgevallen boom. Doorgezaagd- nee - doorgeknaagd, een bever.

Verwondering bij ons over de nutteloosheid, want met een boom die meters van het water stond kan een beest toch niks? Nog een week... Bewondering. Takken bleken uit de gevallen boom geknaagd te zijn en verdwenen. Dus, zo’n beest loopt over het land, kiest een boom omdat hij turend naar de hemel de geschikte takken ziet; destructie, constructie of heerlijk wintervoedsel?

Appear / Disappear

When DordtYart appeared for us in 2010, it immediately felt like a place where things should be created. A beautiful location with lots of light, space, possibilities and a tactile atmosphere that requires to be worked in. Meanwhile more than 90 artists have had short and long work periods in the hall where the appearance of new work and experiment was wonderful to experience, both for the visitors and for the artists and for us.

We enter the last year as DordtYart in the old machine factory in Dordrecht. From the beginning, we knew as an organization that it would be temporary. This also creates strength: we have been able to let incredible things happen in 8 years time. Time for something new.

The fact that DordtYart is a place that appeared and disappears after the summer, became a beautiful and fitting theme for us for this year where all kinds of other thoughts come to mind. The appearance of works and experiments in the hall, the area around DordtYart that is developing tremendously, the confined time of this project, the hall that shows its transience after all these years, the changing seasons that sometimes literally penetrate the hall, the lively headland full of trees, plants and animals..

DordtYart in the winter, no activities in the machine hall but outside the harbor we saw a fallen tree. Sawed -no- chewed down, by a beaver.
Amazement with us about the uselessness, because with a tree standing meters from the water a beast cant do anything? Another week of admiration. Branches appeared to have been chewed from the fallen tree and disappeared. So, such a beast walks across the land, chooses a tree because he looks at the sky for the appropriate branches for later, destruction, construction or delicious winter food?
