PERFORMANCES WITH BELLS, ORGANS AND SOAP BUBBLES
After a beautiful opening performance with Ensemble Interface, De Bellen of Hans van Koolwijk are waiting for their next performance. It will not be quiet in the next weeks: sound artist Hans van Koolwijk will play his new bells-installation together with three members of the Schreck Ensemble: Hans van Eck (composer and director). Caroline Erkelens (singer). Jan-Kees van Kampen (live electronics).
Fifty hanging bells, from Japan, Birma, Tibet and London, plus fragile copies of bone china porcelain, made by Van Koolwijk, can swing and collide freely. By Hans van Eck composed structures start a dialogue with De Bellen, and the players improvise in heartfelt, so every performance will be an unique experience. Subtle doppler effects are edited by Jan-Kees van Kampen, and with the texts in different languages from Caroline Erkelens, they will take visitors to a different state of mind in which dreams, forgotten memories and reality come together.
On these days the artist duo Nils Davidse and Elise 't Hart will create a new composition for Organa, with the characteristics of each organ that is present in the hall. The artists collected house organs from all over the Netherlands for this project; every one with its own sound, his own voice.
The Poet by Maria Barnas will speak as well. This is an installation searching for a new visual language, driven by the addition of dry ice. As soon as the ice is added the machine starts searching for words and sentences, and this search will become the poem itself.
Performances: 2 & 10 September (14.00,15.00 & 16.00 hrs) 15 October (14.00, 15.00 & 16.00 hrs)

WORKSHOP MARNIX VAN DE POLL
For Sense of Music Marnix van de Poll is invited to give a workshop Storytelling. During this performance/workshop Van der Poll will use power of music to stimulate the imagination and inspire people. Storytelling is a powerful way to communicate a message. Visitors are taken to the musical heights and depths of the narrative music of Shostakovich and the program he will bring a week later in the Sound Pavilion of Dré Wapenaar. Van der Poll takes us on a trip full of images, stories, and emotions. These stories are shared with each other. This way music will inspire at first, and afterwards the different experiences and stories inspire as well, on a new level.
Saturday 9 September, 13.00 & 15.00 hrs Sign up before 2 September via info@dordtyart.nl Costs €20,-, incl. coffee/tea

OPENING SENSE OF SOUND
Sound waves filled the hall. On Saturday 19th of August the doors of DordtYart opened for the second part of the season: Sense of Sound. A beautiful day, with lots of visitors, sound, and a special performance of Ensemble Interface with Hans van Koolwijk. The ensemble composed, rehearsed, and learned to play the new instruments made by Van Koolwijk in the week before the opening. RTV Dordrecht visited and documented these rehearsels. Watch the report here.

SENSE OF MUSIC
Next week Dré Wapenaar rebuilds his Sound Pavilion on our outside area. In this special pavilion the audience sits against the resonance box of the musicians, which makes the experience of a concert very intense and intimate at the same time.
Sense of Music opens with Lemniscaat by Rondane Kwartet, one of the warmest advocates of the works by Simeon ten Holt. From his oeuvre we programmed a number of concerts by different artists. The repetition of Ten Holt's works and the freedom to experiment therein works very well with the acoustics of the Sound Pavilion. Some of these programmed concerts are: Toon Hagen and Philine Coops who will perform the seldom performed piece Shadow Nor Prey and there is a special version of the Canto Ostinato, Ten Holt's best known work by Ivo Janssen (piano) and Vincent van Amsterdam (accordion) More information and tickets here.
